Dating Nigerian Man In Usa

If you plan on dating a Nigerian man, expect to be exposed to openness in terms of ideologies, society change and food. Nigerian functions and all. The truth is, I'm not a site of online dating. I'd like to have a story to tell one day and not simply 'on the internet'. Well, these times being what they are, I gues I have to look everywhere. Finally, I came to the conclusion that I like this dating site best - the proportion of free people is the highest.

When Dating A Nigerian Man What Should An African American Woman Expect?
---The reasons behind which I'm opening this topic is, because I'm currently in college and dating a Nigerian man (Yoruba) for the first time. I tend to be very patient and willing to learn new things, so INSTEAD of getting angry when I don't understand his behavior, I try to remember we have our differences. I plan on later becoming a Marriage and Family counselor so I THINK the best place to start is within my own relationship, Sometimes he is the sweetest man ever, and I adore spending time with him, then at times its like he's sitting on a throne and I am catering more to his needs than he is to mines. Sometimes I think common sense should tell a man how to act towards his woman, but then I remember we have different views, I just basically would like to know why he can't/ or won't diverge away from his traditions for just a while (relationship wise), because I consider myself to be feminist, yet I've sacrificed some of that pride and cooked a few meals, cleaned up a bit, and done so without griping or complaining, wonder if he'd do the same,

You will definitely expect different things like behaviours and understanding of opinions. You knew this before you agreed to date each other so i think the best to be ready to face all the joy of relationships and other side of it.

cooking & cleaning? babygurl, tell me what man in the US would do this more often, without griping, nontheless a Nigerian man? LOL
tho, there are some men infact, who do enjoy contributiing like that. If u find him, keep him.
My X BOYFRIEND is Nigerian (Igbo) from PH and the reason we didnt make it, is because he leaves messy 'tracks' for me to see clear evidence of his inconsistency in behaviour. If you found a Nigerian man in US, try it out and learn as much of the culture as u can, because its a beautiful thing finding a GOOD man back from our original roots. BUT, if that joker aint acting right, and his behavour is INCONSISTENT and not what you want in a man, let his tail GO!.
Remember, Brothas, weather from US or Nigeria are not all put in the same category. some are worth their salt, and some need the boot. As far as the culture thing, someone on Nairaland may better help u with that understanding,
love & light,

if you are dating a Nigerian man you must expect many things, in the culture of the Nigerians they always love to dominate their partner which means you should e somebody that is very patient, they always want to show that they are the Husband which means you have to be humble another thing you should expect is that they are easily carried away with love which means you need to hold unto him tightly so that he will not be snatched away from you/ Nigerian men love to be cared for.

I too am in a relationship with a Nigerian Man, I love him dearly. I am all about looking after him, love to cook for him, love to please him, I respect him as head of the household, I sometimes have an issue with him telling me how to better take care of my own needs(rest, eating more, just plain pampering myself) he can be firm about that but I am learning, have always done the looking after so now it feels a little odd when someone wants to look after me. But for the most part there have been no clashing issues, When and if they do arise we will deal with it appropriately, we have been very clear with the fact that if you don't say whats on your mind or troubling you it wont get dealt with.

hmm even tho this was for her, thanks because im feeling the same way she is feeling, and this was helpful....but at the same time, they need to know that if your picking up an american women, they should know as well that here ( u.s.a.), everything is 50/50, you take care of me i take care of you.....because any other form shows that he is self centered, and only cares about himself.

How come the only Canadian I dated was full of shit. Am a Nigerian and I won't say am perfect. We all have good and bad sides but we must embrace both in someone we love. I broke up with my girl last month cos she's too proud of herself that she's Canadian and am not. She believes I need her and she doesn't need me. Of cos I can't be an option to anyone when I make you a priority. I never knew she was Canadian and never asked her, she told me. I couldn't cope with her feeling I only met her in order to have my papers. We barely dated couple of weeks and she asked me to get her pregnant so she could help me with papers. I told her I wasn't interested cos am not in a haste. Back then, whenever we have any argument, she'll tell me am so African. She sometimes say she hates black but she's a dependent of Jamaica. She's likes to be in charge. She asked me to move into her apartment and I said no, she told me I was staying at my place so I could cheat on her, I had my place before I met her. I perfectly understood we got different backgrounds but she wanted me to act Canadian when am not. Am just a year old here. Smiles. Still single and searching anyways.
